Goal of the Digital Greenhouse
Dan Fitzpatrick, Post-Gazette Staff Writer, wrote, in part, "Leaders of the state-funded Pittsburgh Digital Greenhouse -- launched by ex-Gov. Tom Ridge in 1999 to help spawn a new local high-tech industry -- believe they could have exceeded the goal of creating 1,500 jobs in three years had it not been for the recession.
As it stands, the consortium of 21 companies, universities and nonprofits that are attempting to make the region a microchip design center was able to help create 667 jobs in the three years, all but six coming in its first year.

Ambition for Citizenship
Without ambition, no conquests are made, no lands discovered, no business created. Ambition is the root of all achievement.

IT Job Market to Improve
A report in May 2002 from the Information Technology Association of America, an
industry group, indicates that despite increasing levels of
unemployment overall, the market for information technology jobs will
improve soon. The report says that hiring managers plan to add 1.1
million jobs in the next 12 months, which would represent a substantial
rebound from recent declines. According to the ITAA, the IT workforce
will return to pre-2001 levels "if just half of these jobs are filled."
The upturn in IT jobs must have a corresponding increase
in spending on IT infrastructure, including computer and networking
hardware and services.
